Caring for destination
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Local community and the natural environment in the north Borneo.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
For every tour that you purchase from us, you will help us to make a difference to the local community and natural environment in north Borneo. Our objectives are to ensure that our operations are based on economic, social and environmental sustainable principles. What it means is that we will ensure to protect or enhance the environment through the projects we do and that we benefit the local communities too.
A portion of tour revenue is set aside to fund various projects in Kudat, Kinabatangan and Kundasang through our non-profit organization, Borneo Ecotourism Solutions and Technologies Society (BEST). Clients also have the opportunity to plant their own rainforest tree (applicable for Sukau Tours only) under our KWICORP Program.
In 2007 Borneo Eco Tours initiated a contribution of RM8.00 per tourist traveling by speed boat to Sukau Rainforest Lodge to our non-profit foundation, for carbon offsetting program. Our sister company, Sukau Rainforest Lodge also contributes RM4.00 since 2000 for every international guest who stays at the lodge. In addition, we set aside RM 20.00 from our guest's purchase of Kinabatangan tour packages towards BEST Society's Conservation Levy for various projects in Sabah.
